Frequently Asked Questions & Comments
We are here to make your stay as carefree and enjoyable as possible.
Please see some of our FAQ's about the house below
Can you tell me more about the venue being contactless?
We became a contactless venue in 2020 during the pandemic and have continued this addition to the house on into current times due to nation wide staff shortages in which we have chosen to operate our daily breakfast service in favour of a reception desk. When you reserve a room at the house you are provided with a phone number that is manned by a member of staff 24/7, so please know you are never alone, we are always here for you. Staff are also on site every day to serve our lovely guests breakfast and complete housekeeping, please don't hesitate to say hello! We appreciate your understanding.
What time is check out?
We are happy to provide an included late check out of midday for our B&B guests and an 11:00am checkout for our Room Only guests. You are welcome to leave your car in the car park after this time if you’re still exploring Queenscliff, if you require luggage storage please see a member of staff.
What time is check in? Can I check in early?
Check in is from 2:00pm onwards, as we follow strict cleaning protocols an early check in is subject to availability. If you require an early check in please let us know, we will advise you via text message the day of your arrival as soon as the room is ready.
Tell me more about breakfast?

Why are there no hand rails in the bathrooms?
We have attempted to install hand rails, however, unfortunately there are no studs behind suitable places on the walls in the bathrooms. We understand this makes entry and exit difficult for some guests but sadly due to this we are unable to install railings. For a walk in shower please see our Courtyard Room.
Can you hire the whole house?
Yes! We love hosting families and friends for group getaways! To receive a quote you can email Laurel at email@example.com with your desired dates and we’ll get back to you within 48 hours.
Do you have a Netflix account I can use?
Netflix does not offer commercial accounts however you are welcome to sign in to your own account via the app on the television, don’t forget to sign out prior to check out. Please note that not all TV's are smart TV's and internet can be unreliable in Queenscliff due to poor infrastructure so this facility may not always be available.
Can I have my breakfast delivered to my room?
Room service is complimentary at Athelstane House and can be ordered via the forms at reception. Simply fill in your form (one form per room) and place in the forms folder with the blue lid at the desk – we’ll do the rest!
Do you own the building?
No, Athelstane House is a leased property – we do everything we can to ensure our guests have the best and most memorable time however due to being under a leasehold we appreciate your understanding that we have some constraints to what we can and cannot provide and upgrade (i.e., very 90’s bathrooms!).
Can we use the front lounge?
Yes! Our front guest lounge (on the ground floor by the entry) is for all guests to use. We have provided you with cutlery, crockery, a microwave, bottled water, glasses and an ice machine which you’re welcome to use. We ask guests to be courteous and kind to one another while using this room while also noting our noise policy.
Do you have WIFI?
Yes! The house has WIFI which is free to use for all guests, login details are provided on check in.
Please note that internet and phone reception can be unreliable in Queenscliff, please reach out if you need any further information on connectivity on the Bellarine.
What is your noise policy and why do you have one in place?
Athelstane House has a very strict noise policy, due to the age and acoustics of the building. The house is a quiet, tranquil venue where guests come to relax and enjoy our hospitality. Excessive noise will not be tolerated at any time but especially after 10pm. In its absolute discretion, management reserves the right to charge offending guests in the first instance of noise disturbance resulting in a complaint to management a $150 call out fee per room involved in the complaint. In any further call outs management reserves the right to charge offending guests to the full extent of compensation provided to other guests adversely affected by the noise (up to $4,500). Common areas are available to be used from 8:00am - 9:00pm daily. Groups are not permitted to gather in guest rooms or common areas outside of these times. As Athelstane is a heritage property it does not have modern sound proofing, the house is generally a very quiet venue however if you're a light sleeper please ensure you bring headphones or ear plugs for comfort.
We understand this may not be a typical rule of a hotel or B&B, however we have this policy in place to ensure that all guests can enjoy their time in Queenscliff without worry or disturbance.
What are your recommendations for dining out?
Queenscliff has a great selection of cafes and restaurants; when you book a room at Athelstane please feel free to email us to request a copy of our 'Guide to Queenscliff' or check out the Queenscliff tab on our website. Venues may change their hours without notice, we recommend making a reservation if you have your heart set on a particular venue.
